What is Remote Online Notarization?
Remote Online Notarization (“RON”) is a notarization performed online using audio and video communication and a remote notarization platform to sign documents remotely. The executed document is an electronic document, which is considered an original within states that permit Remote Online Notarization.
“RON” Eligibility
Signers must meet the following requirements to sign remotely. Requirements vary by state.
U.S. Citizen/U.S. Resident
Be U.S. Citizen and/or U.S. residents (with a valid U.S. social security number) located anywhere in the world.
Identify
Have a valid photo identification such as a passport, state issued driver license, or identification card.
Computer Access
Access to a computer, tablet, or smart phone with audio and video capabilities along with Internet access.
Legal Age
Must be of a minimum age of 18 years or older.
Sound Mind
Signer is visibly of sound mind, alert, and mentally competent at the time of signing.
Screening
Successful completion of a mandatory online identity screening process. Varys by state.
